Lead On, O King Eternal

These days I find myself deeply weary of war, both the “war on terror” and the “culture war.” The second stanza of this lovely hymn resonates in my soul.

“Lead on, O King eternal,
Till sin’s fierce war shall cease,
And holiness shall whisper
The sweet amen of peace.
For not with swords’ loud clashing,
Nor roll of stirring drums;
With deeds of love and mercy
The heavenly kingdom comes.”

    doesn’t the “holiness” kind of get you though? Isn’t that word on par with … “plasma (as in the fourth state of matter)”, “thermonuclear detonation”, “truth”, “supernova”, or “god”?

    Your weariness of terrorism and cultural degradation must surely have increased in the three years since you posted this blog, because it’s been more of the same. But even as conflict rages without, we can experience peace with God, through faith in Christ, and inner peace as we bring our burdens to the throne of God in prayer. I trust this is your own experience.
